Why comedy?  

Lucie Arnaz said it best when asked by TV Guide why people are still laughing at 'I Love Lucy' decades after it first premiered:  "It’s the best medicine ever. My mom made a tonic that never had to be renewed. The date on it never expires. You can always drink it and feel better."  

Lucky are we In Jamestown, New York, to be the hometown of Lucille Ball.  Annually, thousands come from around the country and world, to drink the tonic of a legend and her incredible cast and show.  Their outstanding performance continues to makes fans feel better.  

Yet, it is Lucille Ball's leadership, vision and lasting influence that turns her tonic into a truly powerful force.  With brilliant foresight, she requested her hometown not just celebrate her success but make Jamestown a destination of comedy as an art form. Years later, her vision was brought to life by an ensemble of community leaders and public/private investors, designers, builders and believers. 

In 2018, the National Comedy Center, the United States’ official cultural institution and museum dedicated to the story of comedy, opened its doors to thousands of visitors and their rave reviews. Comedy's legendary artists and fans, students, professionals, and more, have pilgrimaged to Jamestown to laugh and learn from their love of this art form.
